General Information for Athletic Tryouts
Students who are interested in trying out for cross country, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, football, archery, cheerleading, lacrosse and track will complete an athletic packet including and current sports physical. All paperwork must be completed before a student can participate in tryouts. The completed packet must be turned in the first day prior to tryouts beginning or at signups. It would be helpful that a parent brings the child to the first tryout or meeting to ensure that proper paperwork is completed. If you have any questions, please call the athletic director at 341-0216. This packet is also available on Turkey Foot's website or in the front office.
Parents and/or other visitors are not permitted to watch/attend tryouts or practices.
Please read the following guidelines. Refer back to this sheet for your information as needed.
A student must have a current physical on a KHSAA Middle School form. Use the attached physical in the packet on the website.
Any child who needs emergency medication (Diastat, Epipen, Glucagon, or an inhaler) MUST have all required paperwork signed by the parent and physician prior to any tryout or practice provider.
The enclosed liability form must be completed and returned before a student may participate in tryouts. List all sports that your child may want to try out for this year.
In accordance with Kenton County Board of Education policy, a copy of your insurance card must be attached to the completed packet. If parents do not have insurance, it can be purchased from an insurance provider.
If you need to purchase insurance for the school year see “insurance policy” under the Policies section.
When a student makes an athletic team, the county requires a $40.00 athletic fee per sport (not to exceed $150 per family per school.) DO NOT send money to school until your child makes the team. If other fees are required athletes will be notified of this prior to the start date.
Unless otherwise specified by the coach, all athletes will leave school at dismissal and return back to school for their game/practice. Parents need to provide all middle school athletes transportation to and from sporting events. Kenton County does not provide middle school athletes transportation.
For a student to try out for any athletic team here at Turkey Foot, the complete athletic process on Family ID.
Athletes are given multiple days to tryouts, but are not required to attend all tryout dates. It is highly recommended. Parents and/or other visitors are not permitted to watch/attend tryouts.
Practice/ Locker Room Policy
Parents and/or other visitors are not permitted to be in the locker room before, during or after practices or games. Parents must wait for players outside of the locker rooms.
Spirit of Sportsmanship - Spectators
Any middle school spectators who display behavior deemed inappropriate by an official or administrator will not be allowed to attend the next sporting event in which a relative might be involved. If this occurs twice during an athletic season, that person will not be allowed to attend athletic events for the remainder of the athletic season.
Spirit of Sportsmanship- Players
If a middle school athlete is ejected from a game, they will automatically be suspended for a following game. If a player is ejected a second time, the player will be removed from the team for the remainder of the season.
Academic Eligibility Requirements:
A student must be passing 5 of six subjects for the trimester and be passing all classes for the year in order to participate. This also involves athletes playing at the high school level. Grade will be checked weekly once the season begins. If a student if failing when the report is ran they will be informed and will be given a date when their grades will be ran again. If they are still failing on that notified date they will be ineligible for one week (Saturday to Saturday).
- Players on academic probation will not be allowed to attend practices or dress and sit on the bench at events.
- If a student receives three weeks of academic probation during their season they will be removed from the team for the remainder of the season.
Student behavior is important, both in the classroom and on the field/court. School administrators will work with students, teachers, parents and athletic directors to determine if the behavior event renders a student to be ineligible for a period of time agreed upon by the school administration.
- If a student has a doctor's note stating he/she is unable to participate in gym he/she will also be unable to participate in athletic events.
- If an athlete has an excused note for missing school they are eligible to participate in athletic events that day.
- If an athlete leaves early or arrives to school late they must be at school by or leave at 11:10am (attend school for½ day) to participate in athlete events that evening.
