PHILOSOPHY OF INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS
The interscholastic athletic program is offered to all students in good academic standing in the Acton-Boxborough Regional School District. Teams compete with other schools at the junior high, freshman, junior varsity and varsity levels. Inclusion is one of the primary objectives of the program; the goal is to involve as many young people as possible in an athletic experience. Each coach, together with the Director of Athletics must, determine his/her game plan, strategy and quality of competition. However, aim is to have young people be participants rather than bystanders. Through participation they learn that self-sacrifice, discipline and cooperation are necessary ingredients of teamwork. They learn, too, the value of respect for all who are involved in the completion-teammates, opponents, coaches and officials. Good sportsmanship is one of our highest priorities.
Members of the athletic staff are expected to abide by the regulations and official decisions governing each sport, to recognize each participant as an individual, to conduct themselves in a manner befitting their responsibilities and to contributing members of the school community, striving to improve the school’s total education program.. Each coach will make a diligent effort to place a team on the field or court that will be a credit to Acton-Boxborough Regional School District.
