As with all Whitman programs, proper behavior is expected and required. If a problem arises where the safety of any student is put in jeopardy, the team member(s) involved will be given one warning. If inappropriate behavior occurs again, another warning will be given and parents will be contacted. If a third problem occurs the student(s) will be removed from the team.
To participate in Cross Country, all Whitman students must be enrolled in Cross Country through Family ID or have ALL PERMISSION SLIPS signed by a parent or guardian. You can request paper registration packets from the office. They need to be returned to school by Friday, September 13.
Proper shoes for running must to be worn during practice and meets. Runners need to bring a sweatshirt/coat and long pants for practices when the weather gets cold. As always, proper hydration is very important. Students will be given water breaks, but should have their own water bottle.
Attendance is very important! All runners MUST have 5 practices before they can run in a meet. There are only 6 practices scheduled before the first meet. Attendance is taken at all practices.
Parents are responsible for the transportation of their child after practice. Practice is over at 4:00 p.m. Please be on time to pick your child up at 4:00 p.m. Students continually not picked up on time will be removed from the team.
The two meets at Hays Park will include busing. The meets may conclude as late as 6:00 p.m. Parents must be sure to sign your child out from the meet with one of the Cross Country Coaches prior to leaving the meet so we can be assured of your child’s safety. Students will ONLY be allowed to leave with adults listed on the Extra Curricular Transportation form. Students can also ride the bus back to Whitman after the meet if they cannot get a ride.
Whitman Elementary will participate in the Hays Park Zone with Elementary Cross Country Meets scheduled on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 and Wednesday, October 9, 2019. Both meets will begin at 4:15 pm and students will be bused from Whitman Elementary to Hays Park to compete.
The All-City Cross Country Meet will be held at Franklin Park (302 W. Queen) on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 4:15 pm. Students will be bused to and from this meet as well. To qualify, runners must place top 10 or meet the qualifying times below.
