Waterford-Halfmoon Junior/Senior High Policy Review 20-21

Registration Deadline 11/01/2020

Greetings Waterford-Halfmoon Students,

I want to thank you all for your patience throughout this pandemic. As we approach the start of the school year with a very different way in which the students will participate in school, it will be important that all parties understand the guidelines for learning. Almost everything we are doing in September is new.

New this year is the way we share our policies and procedures. We will use Family ID to do this. Please see Attachment A below for instructions on how to create an account through FamilyID.  Once your account is created, log in to access and sign off on these policies (Code of Conduct, Code of Responsibilities and Rights, Academic Eligibility and Attendance). In addition, if you do not want your child photographed please call the JSHS Main Office at extension 3701.

I invite you all to go to the SchoolTool portal to see your schedule for the year. I apologize for the lateness of this release. We have faced many scheduling obstacles this summer and we anticipate more as we enter into a school year like never before. We ask for, and appreciate, your patience.

Please understand that we will be issuing the following guidelines:

Virtual Learners:

Students must log on daily for the teacher to take attendance during each period. At that point the teacher will inform the students whether they are streaming, working on a different activity or a combination of the two. Students will need to submit their work on time or risk losing credit for work being late. This is different than last spring where students had the entire semester to complete assignments.

While streaming, student and teacher privacy must be adhered to. That means parents are not to participate in classes unless invited by the teacher to do so. If privacy becomes an issue, that student will receive taped lessons and not be allowed to participate in live streaming.

In Person Learners

Students will need to follow the mask guidelines at all times. Students must wear a mask while walking in the hallways. Students must wear a mask anytime they stand to move around a classroom. When getting support from a teacher, a mask must be worn by both parties when 6 feet cannot be observed or barriers are not present. Teachers can require that masks be worn. Mandatory mask breaks will be given periodically.

While in Physical Education or out on the fields for recess, social distancing will be expected or masks will be required.

While walking in the hallway students will be expected to follow directional arrows and signage to guide them safely to and from educational areas.

With all that being said I am extremely excited for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. It has been much too long since students have been in this building. Enjoy the remainder of the summer and I will see some of you real soon in person and some online.

A New Year

Please be ready for changes. We know that in these uncertain times that we will make adjustments. We will receive direction from government agencies and/or New York State Education Department and make modifications. We will learn that parts of our plan and procedures need improvement. We will adjust to provide the safest and best educational experience for our students that we can. Once again, we need everyone’s patience.

We are excited for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. It has been too long since students have been in this building. Enjoy the remainder of the summer and we will see some of you real soon in person and some online.
