The Sophomore Service Plunge is a retreat that is a chance for 10th graders to “plunge” into the wider community and participate in direct service. Students stay overnight at Bellarmine, participate in community building activities, and spend time at a local service agency doing direct service with marginalized groups followed by reflection and prayer.
Goals of Service Plunge:
- Build community: prayer, Mass, small group discussions, working and doing service together
- Service Experience: An introduction to the marginalized of our world, community service at local service agencies, small and large group reflection and prayer.
- Have fun: Icebreakers and activities
Our mission encourages students to become men and women for others, and our Jesuit roots remind us to walk with the poor and marginalized in our world. The Service Plunge retreat is an effective way to immerse our sophomores in direct service and help them to discover their role in giving back to society.
