Welcome to Shawsheen Valley Technical High School Winter 2021/2022 Athletics Registration.
All student-athletes must have a recent physical exam on file PRIOR TO TRYOUTS (11/29/21). Please upload current physical to your FamilyID account (Click here for instructions on how to upload a physical). In order to be in compliance with state regulations, physical exams will be required every thirteen months to the day of the previous physical exam. For example, a physical dated September 14, 2020 will EXPIRE on October 14, 2021 and the student-athlete becomes ineligible to practice or compete until current physical is uploaded to FamilyID (please make sure that the document is not an HEIC formatted document-we're unable to open documents in that format).
Convenient MD and MIAA Partnership
In support of local youth, sports, and education, ConvenientMD Urgent Care is offering $20 sports, school, and camp physicals. There is a ConvenientMD Urgent Care location at 181 Cambridge Street, Burlington MA.
Open 8am – 8pm, 7 days a week - No appointment needed!
Student-athletes who plan to participate in any athletic program must complete a free on-line concussion course. This free on-line course is offered by the National Federation of High School organization (https://nfhslearn.com/courses/61059/concussion-for-students). The entire course, including registration, can be completed in less than 30 minutes. You do not need to turn in the certificate of completion. If you completed this course during the Fall sports season, you do not need to take it again.
ImPACT CONCUSSION BASELINE TESTING
It’s MANDATORY for all 9th graders, 11th graders and those student-athletes who are new to sports and have never completed the concussion baseline test. The student-athlete MUST complete the test themselves, so we have accurate data on file in case of a concussion. This is different than the NFHS Online Concussion in Sports course.
If you completed the Baseline Test during the Fall sports season, you do not need to take it again.
Shawsheen uses the ImPACT baseline test for concussion protocol. The ImPACT Test is a computerized test that has two main uses; the first is measuring the athlete’s memory, attention span and visual/verbal problem solving. The second; is in the event of the athlete sustaining a concussion, this initial baseline test will be utilized to compare results post-injury.
- The test should take on average 25 minutes to complete and there is no time limit.
- Test should be completed on a laptop/desktop and not on a cell phone.
- The test should be taken in a quiet environment away from distractions; this includes cell phones, other people, TV etc.
- Once you have completed the test you do not have to printout or email results; they will automatically upload to the Shawsheen database.
- If you completed this during the Fall season, you do not need to take it again.
Any questions regarding ImPACT Testing can be emailed to Shawsheen’s Athletic Trainer, Charlotte Anderson.
