Shaw Summer Playlist 2019

The Shaw "Summer Playlist" brings summer learning to youth and teens who live in the Northeast neighborhoods of Spokane, Washington.  

The program is open to all kids entering kindergarten through high school (ages 4 - 16 years). Activities include academic enrichment,  sports and recreation, STEM, arts, games, mentoring and much more.  Youth and teens who enroll in the program have access to free breakfast and lunch each day, as well as a "Playlist" of age-appropriate activities designed to engage them in learning and recreation.  

The goals of the Shaw "Summer Playlist" are: 

  • Build and maintain the academic gains students experienced during the school year,
  • Increase participation in safe and healthy activities that promote learning, 
  • Provide healthy meals and snacks to eliminate food insecurity among kids.

    Most programs will be offered at Shaw Middle School unless otherwise noted.

    Shaw Middle School is in the center of The ZONE which encompasses the area north of Gonzaga University, east of Division Street, West of Market Street and South of Francis Streets.  Schools in the ZONE include; Arlington, Bemiss, Cooper, Lidgerwood, Logan, Longfellow, Regal, Stevens, and Whitman Elementary, Shaw Middle School, Garry Middle School, Rogers High School.

    Typical Daily Schedule for the "Summer Playlist" 

    7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. Children walk to Shaw or ride the bus provided to transport from participating elementary schools

    8:00 a.m. buses arrives at Shaw MS, program opens for children.

    8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. - Breakfast

    8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Yoga and Mindfulness

    9 a.m. - 10 a.m. - Academic Enrichment (Session 1)

    10 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. - Snack and Outdoor Play

    10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Academic Enrichment (Session 2)

    11:30 a.m. - 12:00 - Lunch

    12 - 1:30 p.m. - STEM, Arts, Sports and Recreation, Field Trips (varies by day)

    1:30 p.m. Bus riders leave, walkers leave

    1:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. - Closing site
