Further. Faster. Stronger.
Riptide Running Cape Cod believes running is for everyone. Running fosters community while simultaneously fostering individual growth.
Whether your goal is fun and friendship, fitness for other sports, setting a personal record or competing at the national level, we will guide your every step.
RIPTIDE RUNNING CAPE COD is a competitive youth running team for ages 10* - 18 here on Cape Cod, led by Head Coach Justin Torrellas (USTAF-certified and former Team USA member - modern pentathlon) and his team of experienced coaches.
In previous years, the main focus of our Fall Session has been to prepare runners for USA Track & Field's Junior Olympics Cross Country series. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic this year, USATF has not yet confirmed how Junior Olympics will work or even if it will happen. Further, many local schools have cancelled or reduced their cross country programs.
For these reasons, our fall program this year will be modular and flexible, serving two purposes: keeping athletes active and healthy, and providing longer-term training with the goal of peaking around when Junior Olympics are currently scheduled: New Englands on 11/15 in Nashua, NH, through Nationals in Lexington, KY on 12/12.
Our Fall Session II begins on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 and ends on Sunday, November 15th, 2020 (six weeks). Groups meet at Wixon Middle School on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:15 to 4:30 PM, and Sundays at the Cape Cod Rail Trail off Exit 10 in Harwich from 10:00 to 11:30 AM.
Fall Session III will be intensive preparation for Nationals for all qualified runners and others who wish to stay fit. It likely will be five days per week at the DY track. Details will be provided soon, after USATF releases the plan for Junior Olympics.
MONOMOY MIDDLE AND MATTACHEESE STUDENTS: We expect that you may be a little late on Wednesdays and Fridays. We stay at Wixon on those days, and Justin will have a workout for you.
While we strongly recommend that athletes attend some team sessions, we understand that other teams, holiday travel, and physical distance will make this difficult in some cases. Most of the workouts will be posted online, and we have an online system for submitting these to Riptide coaches.
Registration fee for Session II will be $150/each, which includes in-person coaching, online coaching, and race registration fees (if any). Uniforms and team wear will be available for purchase separately. Recognizing the special challenges of these times, financial aid is available for anyone who needs it.
RIPTIDE RUNNING CAPE COD runners have qualified for the USATF Junior Olympic Nationals in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. In 2018, we had our first All-American (top 25 in the US).
Our program depends on state regulations for youth sports, which are continually evolving and dependent on progress against the COVID-19 pandemic.
While we are confident that our fall plan meets current requirements and ensures the safety of Riptide participants and coaches, we may need to modify our operations to comply with ever-changing state and local requirements.
We may be required to suspend or cancel practice with very little notice.
Should Riptide be required to suspend practices for an extended period, we will endeavor to come up with an equitable policy for refunds or credit toward a future session.
* Experienced runners under the age of 10 will be considered on a case-by-case basis. More info: email@example.com
