Regal Elementary Cross Country

September 2019

Hello Parents and Guardians,

Cross Country is here again!  This program is for all 1st - 6th grade students who like to run and be fit.  This year your child will have the opportunity to compete against different schools at Hays Park. There are two timed competitions so your child can see his/her progress during the season. Parents are encouraged to attend these meets and cheer on their child(ren).  If your child places in the TOP TEN at either of these meets, or runs a qualifying time for his/her grade, they will qualify to compete in the “All-City” meet. This “All-City” meet is held at Franklin Park. Be looking for more information to come about meets closer to meet dates.

As with all Regal programs, proper behavior is expected and required during class and extra-curricular activities.  If a problem arises during the school day and/or at after school activities, the team member(s) involved will be given one warning and parents will be contacted.  If a second problem occurs the student(s) will be removed from the team.  Cross Country coaches are in constant communication with Regal administration and classroom teachers to ensure runners are following rules at all times.

To participate in Cross Country, all students must have ALL PERMISSION SLIPS signed by a parent or guardian (attached).  They need to be returned to school by Friday, September 6, 2019.

Proper shoes for running must to be worn during practice and meets. Runners need to bring a sweatshirt/coat and long pants for practices when the weather gets cold.  As always, proper hydration is very important. Students will be given water breaks, but should have their own water bottle.

Attendance is very important! All runners MUST have 6 practices before they can run in a meet. There are only 7 practices scheduled before the first meet.  Attendance is taken at all practices, due to our large number of students participating we work with our office staff regarding attendance, especially for our younger students.

Parents are responsible for the transportation of their child after practice concludes at 4:00 p.m.  Please be on time to pick your child up at 4:00 p.m.  Students continually not picked up on time will be removed from the team. There is no activity bus available for students to use after practice.

The two meets at Hays Park will include bussing.  The meets may conclude as late as 6:00 p.m. Parents must be sure to sign your child out from the meet with one of the Cross Country Coaches prior to leaving the meet so we can be assured of your child’s safety. Students will ONLY be allowed to leave with adults listed on the Extra Curricular Transportation form. Students can also ride the bus back to Regal after the meet if they cannot get a ride.

Active4Youth is a 501c 3 non-profit. Active4Youth was created to provide opportunities for elementary students in the Spokane area. A4Y is a grassroots organization, not a corporate funded affiliate.  A4Y works in a partnership with Spokane Public Schools to provide the elementary Cross Country program including The Bloomsday All City Cross Country Championships.

We are looking forward to a fun and fit season!
