Nature Journaling and Drawing (Families, kids ages 10+ and adults)
This class is an opportunity for kids and adults alike to learn and improve their drawing skills and to spend time outdoors. Our activities will include fun warm up drawing exercises, videos on techniques like shading, cross hatching, and perspective, and sharing our observations from trips outdoors. We will also draw still life of plants and natural materials as a way to develop basic drawing skills and to consider composition.
Everyone will maintain a sketch book and bring new sketches to class every week. Our class times will focus on reviewing drawings we create outside of our weekly class meeting time. Class time will also include drawing exercises that will integrate ideas about plant biology and ecology for students to consider when they go outdoors to draw. Students will be encouraged to develop their own style and approach to drawing. At the end of the class, students will have an instinct for how to approach drawing and a deeper appreciation for nature.

Intro to Drawing and Sculpting from Nature (Ages 10-18)
In this hands-on class, students will explore nature observation and natural forms through the creation of art using drawing and sculpture media. Observe a tree form and depict its contours using wire, collect natural materials and create a sculpture relief using paperclay, discover a variety of pine cones and use charcoal to depict the negative spaces of the form as you draw from observation, practice nature meditation by waiting for a bird to come into your view, then try your hand at gesture drawing to capture your experience!
