After-School Childcare (“After-care”) exists to provide a predictable, fun and enriching environment on a daily basis, for students in grades K-6. The Aftercare group typically includes both indoor and outdoor play, a snack-circle reflection time, and hands-on art and science projects.
This is a fee-based program, with a sliding-scale fee to make it as affordable as possible for all families. MVSD employees have free access to this program as an employee benefit. All families are asked to indicate the specific days they will attend each month, so that we can plan for adequate food, staffing and project materials.
Our caregivers come from an Outward Bound-inspired background, where children are encouraged to work together as a team, solve problems together, and explore the world in an active way.
Our after-school caregivers for 2017-2018 include: Bo Thrasher (lead), Kelsey McGill, Claire LeDuc and Janie McMillan. Several wonderful community volunteers also often join our program, including Janice Dickensen, Joel Forrest and Marc LeDuc.
