As the curriculum in the Leicester Public Schools becomes more digital, all students in grades 5-12 will need access to an Internet connected device throughout the day, and at home to access the curriculum and their classwork. In acknowledgment of the high price of technology, the district has developed a program where we will provide a device to students in grades 5-12 so long as an annual technology fee is paid to cover accidental breaks (drops, liquid spills, mishandling) and damage that occurs.
For the 2019-20 school year, this fee has been set at $50. If a device is ever damaged, we will provide the student with a loaner device until his or her device is repaired. We will take care of all claims, paperwork and shipping costs associated with getting the device repaired.
The financial benefits of enrolling in this program are substantial as opposed to purchasing your own device. We are offering:
- A modern, touch screen device with all day battery life (8+ hours).
- A case
- Unlimited claims for accidental damage to the device with no deductible (see the Chromebook Care and Use Guide).
- 24/7 virus, email and web filtering protection. Web filtering will not work properly on a non-school-owned device. While no web filter is perfect, a Leicester Public School’s Chromebook is the safest way for your child to access the Internet.
Chargers and cases are not covered by the technology fee. If a student loses or breaks their charger, they are expected to replace it.
Over the summer, you will receive an email from either the Middle or High School with information on when Chromebooks will be distributed. This typically happens 2 weeks prior to the start of school.
