INSTRUCTIONS FOR REGISTERING FOR SPRING SPORTS
This registration is for student-athletes who did not participate in a fall or winter sport at GNA. Those who have previously competed this online registration and had a physical exam for a fall or winter sport should go back to the landing page and complete the "Re-Certification for Spring Sports" registration.
For those who did not participate in a fall or a winter sport, the PIAA, as well as the Greater Nanticoke Area SD, requires a Comprehensive Initial Pre-participation Physical Evaluation (CIPPE) before a student-athlete can take part in any activities involving interscholastic sports. There are six sections to the CIPPE, five of which can be completed through this online registration and the sixth, which is a physical examination by a doctor. Student-athletes cannot participate in try-outs or practice until both the online registration is completed and the Section 6 has been signed by a doctor, signifying that the student-athlete is cleared to participate.
Each year, PIAA regulations require that all student-athletes of the Greater Nanticoke Area SD receive a physical examination prior to their participation in interscholastic athletics. This physical must be performed and dated no earlier than June 1st and shall be effective, regardless of when performed during a school year, only until May 31st of that same school year. For this upcoming school year, those valid dates are June 1, 2019 – May 31, 2020. Failure to turn in paperwork prior to the start of tryouts for your sport will result in a loss of participation for the upcoming season (until all necessary paperwork is received, and at the discretion of the coach/athletic department).
In order to participate in athletics during the 2019-20 school year, a physical exam must be authorized after June 1, 2019. An optional free physical exam for those participating in spring sports will be offered at school on Monday, February 24. Student-athletes MUST be registered online in order to receive an exam. Section 6 forms will be provided. If a student-athlete opts to receive an exam from their own doctor, Section 6 form must be filled out by the physician and returned to the school in order to complete the registration process. The Section 6 form can be found and downloaded HERE or it can be picked up at the high school. Once completed, the form should be returned to the high school's athletic office, principal's office or business office. Do not turn it in to a coach.
