If your student participated in a sport over the last two years and you have already created a FamilyID logon and family profile, you will just need to log in, choose your student from your family list and apply them to a sport.  Once you have completed the form, both the Student and the Parent/Guardian will receive an email letting you know your registration has been submitted.

IF YOU CANNOT REMEMBER YOUR LOGIN, PLEASE CONTACT FAMILYID AT 1-781-205-2800 TO RESET YOUR USER.  Do NOT create a new account (we will lose your student's athletic history).

However, you are not yet cleared to participate in that sport.  In order to be cleared, you will need to have a current physical on file, be a student in good academic standing (see below for definition of "student in good academic standing"), and have made financial arrangements to submit athletic fees.

DEFINITION: A student in "Good Academic Standing" is a student that is NOT on HOLD due to owing resources, uniforms, fees and meets grade requirements.

Once you have been physically, academically, and financially cleared, the FamilyID account holder will an email letting them know that they are now cleared to participate in practice and tryouts.  Students will not be cleared to receive a uniform until the fees have been paid.  See Section 3) below.

In the event you have any questions or concerns while completing the registration, please contact Jae Smith in Athletics Office via email at jsmith@watertown.k12.ma.us or phone at 617-926-7748.

REQUIRED STEPS TO BE CLEARED FOR SPORTS

1 ) Fill out the registration. (Congratulations: once you press submit below, and submit on the checkout screen you will have completed the registration!)

NOTE:  THIS REGISTRATION FORM MUST BE COMPLETED BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN.  STUDENTS SHOULD NOT REGISTER THEMSELVES FOR ATHLETICS.

2 ) All student-athletes must have an in-person physical examination from their doctor on file. The physical examination must have taken place within 13 months in order to practice or play and should be turned in to the Nurse's office.  This is an MIAA requirement and will be strictly enforced.  NOTE:  Physical must have a section that says "The student is in good physical health and is eligible to participate in competitive sports without restrictions".  If your physical does NOT have that you must contact the doctor's office and request an updated physical.

Please check the renewal date of your physical examination now and make appointments in advance so your son or daughter does not miss any athletic time.  Please contact your school nurse for any questions regarding student physicals.

NOTICE TO ALL FAMILIES:  If at all possible, please attach your student's physical electronically to your registration.  If it is not possible for you to do so, you can submit your physical form either as a hard copy.  A hard copy must be mailed to:

Watertown High School attn. Joie Mara, School Nurse, 50 Columbia Street Watertown MA  02472 email joie.mara@watertown.k12.ma.us

Watertown Middle School Attn:  Michelle Laracy, School Nurse, 68 Waverley Avenue, Watertown, MA  02472 michelle.laracy@watertown.k12.ma.us

NO STUDENT CAN PRACTICE/PARTICIPATE IN SPORT IF THEIR IN PERSON PHYSICAL EXAM HAS EXPIRED OR DOES NOT CONTAIN THE STATEMENT REGARDING ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN COMPETITIVE SPORTS. THIS IS A MIAA RULE AND THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS

3 ) Complete payment for fees.

NOTE: PAYMENT OF FEES IS DUE AT REGISTRATION IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF YOUR AMOUNT DUE, CONTACT THE ATHLETIC OFFICE 617-926-7748.

Fees are to be paid through our online payment system via echeck or credit card at the time of registration.  Once you have completed your athletics registration and pushed submit, you will be prompted with an option to go to the online payment center.  Please note: online payments include the following fees: 50 cents for echecks and 2.95% on credit cards.

Only athletes applying for a reduced fee under the Free and Reduced Meals Application do not pay at the time of registration.  You will be notified once your request has been approved of the amount you MUST contribute.

IMPORTANT CHANGE SPRING 2020-2021

PRACTICES/GAMES/CONTESTS

High School - 4 practices and 1 or 2 contests per week for a minimum game schedule of 10 contests. Game/meet schedules are being finalized and may take place on weekdays and weekends.  Game and meet schedules will be posted on the Watertown Public Schools website when available.

Middle School - 2 practices per week with intra-team games and meets.

TRANSPORTATION - The Athletic Director is still finalizing transportation options with the Superintendent.  We hope to have more information on Transportation soon.

SPECTATORS - Due to challenges related to crowd control and safety concerns, each student-athlete will be allowed 2 spectators with a Watertown Spectator badge.  Most all games/meets will be simulcast on WCATV.ORG

COVID TESTING All spring athletes will be required to participate in the WPS COVID-19 surveillance testing. Student-athlete testing will maximize the longevity of participation in interscholastic athletics by quickly detecting, tracing, and isolating COVID-19-positive individuals—whether or not they become symptomatic. The current safety measures in place combined with testing for student-athletes will lower the risk of transmission and allow more consistent access to athletics for our students.

Pooled testing combines a number of collected test samples into a pool, and analyzes the pool results. Pooled testing is conducted as surveillance testing. A group of no more than 10 samples is gathered together for bulk testing. If anyone is positive in the pool, then students that are in the pool will come back the next morning for individual testing and will learn in a remote setting until the individual results are returned. Turn around time for testing is generally no more than 24 hours.  Your Middle School athlete will be tested weekly with their in-school pool testing cohorts. Your High School athlete will be tested weekly on Mondays before 4:00 pm. All fully remote Middle School athletes will need to test weekly at the High School each Monday before 4:00 pm.

More information about pooled testing can be found on the WPS website.

After reading the consent form for weekly testing during registration, you will be prompted to electronically sign the acknowledge that you read the consent forms and that you consent to have your child participate in the pooled COVID-19 testing as part of the WPS athletics program.

Once you have been completely cleared to participate in spring sports, you will receive an email from the Athletics Department letting you know you are now eligible to participate.

Online registration for this program is currently closed/unavailable. Please contact Watertown Public Schools Athletics for further information.
