INSTRUCTIONS FOR REGISTERING FOR FALL SPORTS
The PIAA, as well as the Greater Nanticoke Area SD, requires a Comprehensive Initial Pre-participation Physical Evaluation (CIPPE) before a student-athlete can take part in any activities involving interscholastic sports. There are six sections to the CIPPE, five of which can be completed through this online registration and the sixth, which is a physical examination by a doctor. Student-athletes cannot participate in try-outs or practice until both the online registration is completed and the Section 6 has been signed by a doctor, signifying that the student-athlete is cleared to participate.
Each year, PIAA regulations require that all student-athletes of the Greater Nanticoke Area SD receive a physical examination prior to their participation in interscholastic athletics. This physical must be performed and dated no earlier than June 1st and shall be effective, regardless of when performed during a school year, only until May 31st of that same school year. For this upcoming school year, those valid dates are June 1, 2019 – May 31, 2020. Failure to turn in paperwork prior to the start of tryouts for your sport will result in a loss of participation for the upcoming season (until all necessary paperwork is received, and at the discretion of the coach/athletic department).
A free physical exam will be given in the Athletic Training room in the high school on Monday, July 8 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Online registration must be completed prior to receiving an exam. A Section 6 form will be provided at the exam. You do not have to bring one with you.
Alternatively, a student may be examined by his/her own doctor, but that physical must be authorized after June 1, 2019. If you choose to this option, Section 6 of the CIPPE form must be filled out by the physician and returned to the Athletic Office. That form can be found and downloaded HERE.
