Great Mills High School 2018 Spring Athletics Registration

The aim of the Interscholastic Athletic Program of St. Mary's County is to enhance the total educational
curriculum. The athletic program provides all students who meet academic eligibility requirements with the
opportunity to participate in competitive interscholastic athletics and/or the Physical Activity and Lifetime
Sports (PALS) program.

Interscholastic athletics can be a fun, rewarding, and memorable part of the high school experience. While academics offer the primary source for formal education, athletics can contribute to the total value of that education in many different ways. Building upon the concepts of teamwork, fair play, sportsmanship, and self esteem, the athletic experience can help to provide for a well rounded educational experience. Athletic participation is a privilege and not a right. To those who strive to succeed in the classroom comes the privilege to compete outside of it.

Being an athlete, the parent of an athlete, or the coach of an athlete, is often a very challenging experience. Sometimes this relationship can become complicated. The intent of the Guide for Student Athletes and Parents is to condense that information which is necessary to effectively understand and participate in the athletic program in St. Mary's County Public Schools.
