Recent changes to the New York State Education Law require that BMI (body mass index) and WSC (weight status categories) be included as part of a student’s school health examination. Our school district was randomly selected by the New York State Department of Health to take part in a survey. As a selected District, we are required to report to the New York State Department of Health information about our students’ weight status categories. The purpose of sending this information to the New York State Department of Health is to help health officials develop programs that support children being healthier.
The school nurses review the physicals received from your private physician and use the BMI and WSC numbers recorded on those physicals for the survey. For the survey, only a summary of the information collected will be sent to the New York State Department of Health. No names and no personally identifiable information about individual students will be sent or shared. Parents may choose to have their child’s information excluded from this survey report.
Please indicate below your preference no later than December 15, 2017.
