Dear Cranford High School Families:
This correspondence is a follow-up to the communication sent in June outlining health form requirements for the 2020 fall sports season. All student-athletes must have a sports physical using the five pages on our Cranford website under the Athletics tab. Please scan and email all five pages including the Covid questionnaire to Nurse Ahern at email@example.com by August 5th. Please be aware that, without a physical by this deadline, students will not be permitted to attend the first day of fall practice/tryouts on August 17th.
We acknowledge the challenges brought on by the pandemic, as well as a Bill currently before the State Assembly that, if passed, would delay the physical requirement for student-athletes participating in school-sponsored athletic activities during the fall season. However, after careful consideration of the recommendations by our health professionals and school physician, we are requiring all student athletes to have an updated sports physical.
Getting a Physical:
To help families of student athletes meet the physical requirement, Cranford is once again partnering with school physician Dr. Masacaro, who will potentially offer physicals at CHS on July 27th, August 6th and August 7th provided the building is open and available at these times. Note that a physical with Dr. Mascaro is being offered as one option to fulfill your child(ren)'s requirement, but is not mandatory. It is recommended that you do your best to schedule an appointment with your family physician in case we cannot offer these physicals at the end of the month.
As previously stated, a physical with Dr. Mascaro is being offered as one option to fulfill your child(ren)'s requirement, but it is not mandatory. Students are able to see their own primary care physician, or can obtain an affordable physical by visiting a local urgent care center or walk in clinic.
All private physicals must be completed using the five pages found on the CHS website in addition to registration on Family ID. Any student athletes with pre-existing medical conditions, for example, immunocompromised conditions, asthma, diabetes, etc. will need an additional clearance from their physician. Also any athlete that had COVID or a close family member that had COVID will also need an additional clearance.
