The focus is to develop highly competitive athletics but not to lose sight of educational values such as sportsmanship, health, scholastic attainment, etc. The program is to occupy a position in the curriculum comparable to that of other extra-curricular activities and to aid in promoting school morale. It is the duty of the coach to make sure the players are role models and a credit to the team both on and off the field. They must be considered leaders in all that they do. Players are expected to set their standards high, and with the help of their coaches, reach their full potential both on and off the field. Athletes are to be unselfish team-oriented players that always look to improve and drive the team toward success. Players are expected to compete with class and always treat opponents with respect. Coaches must remember that in its mission statement Saint John Vianney High School commits itself to forming citizens of God’s kingdom and the world, and it is the responsibility of all staff members to work towards fulfilling this goal. Therefore, coaches must remember that Saint John Vianney High School places before itself the inherent dignity and worth of the human person as its foundational governing principle.
