Dear Parents / Guardians,
Welcome to the Cathedral High School Billiard Club, which I organize and moderate. All members of the Club will ordinarily meet here in the school Cafeteria on Wednesdays throughout the school year and membership is free. Attendance will be taken each day. We meet shortly after dismissal and dismiss usually around 5:00 and 5:30. Our club also hosts a Billiard Education Foundation (BEF) NYS qualifier tournament, in which winners become qualified to compete in the BEF Junior Nationals. For the past two years, three members have earned a qualifier and have competed in the Junior Nationals. Should any of our members win a qualifier this year, we will designate a mutually agreeable day of the week (other than Wednesday) on which I will provide them with special training to prepare for the Junior Nationals. This day is only for those qualifiers and would be in addition to our regular Wednesday session.
In partnership with Blatt Billiards, we also regularly hold skill-based challenges, in which Blatt will donate a brand new two-piece pool stick and case (valued at about $145) to every winner. Therefore, every so often we will travel to Blatt Billiards for the winners to get the cues and for others to see the cues and other items Blatt has and to look forward to the day they win. Blatt Billiards’ showroom is located at 330 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018 phone number: (212) 674-8855. When traveling there, we take the E subway line to 42nd Street and walk from there.
Other places we travel to:
Sometimes, if we have a lot of players and need multiple tables, we will play at East Side Billiards, located at East 86th Street between Third & Lexington Avenues (phone number: 212-831-POOL ). On such occasion, members will be charged only $5 for 1 ½ hours of pool time. This is a discounted rate. The Club would travel to East Side Billiards via the #4,5, or 6 train from 59th Street to 86th Street.
On some other occasions, like Club parties, we will go via the M train to Slate NY, located at 54 West 21st Street in Manhattan (between Fifth and Sixth Avenues). There is no charge when we go there.
Once or twice a year we travel to the NY Athletic Club (located at 180 Central Park S, New York, NY 10019; (212) 247-5100. It’s about 25 minutes by M57 or M31 bus or by foot.) There is no charge when we go there.
Once or twice a year we travel to Carom Café (located at 3402 Linden Pl, Flushing, NY 11354; (718) 358-8585. It’s about 50 minutes taking the E and 7 subway lines. When going there, members are charged $10 for an hour and a half.
Dates for travel to any of the above locations will be announced in advance on Edmodo, so please make sure your daughter tells you the parent code so that you will always be informed. Also note that whenever public transportation is required, students will be dismissed either directly from the location or from the bus stop/subway station. If you would like your daughter to be dismissed from the bus stop/subway station please email me at the email address below.
If it happens that we plan a trip to anywhere else, a permission slip signed by you will be required before your daughter can take part in the trip.
If you give permission for your daughter to participate in the CHS Billiard Club and to occasionally go to the locations mentioned above, please sign the permission slip below. Note that by registering your daughter, you are also granting permission for any photos or videos of her taken at Billiard-Club-related events to be used in school-related and billiard-related publications.
Should you have any remaining questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at email@example.com or leave a message for me during regular school hours at 212-688-1545 and I will return your call ASAP.
