WTC's fall cross country program is open to boys and girls, ages 8-18. There are no try-outs or cuts. Practices are held three nights per week (Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday) from early August through late November. Participants choose which nights they want to attend, but are expected to come to at least two practices per week and are encouraged to attend three nights per week. All practices are at 6 PM. and will be held at J Lee Gould Track & Field Facility, located at the John J. Leary Field (19 Athletic Field Road, Waltham)
Pre season conditioning practices will start on Sunday, August 9. Formal XC practices start on Sunday, August 23.
The XC Program involves training and racing for distances of 1.1 - 2.4 miles through wooded trails and grass fields. Age groups are 8-10, 11-12, 13-14.
If middle school XC is allowed by COVID guidelines and by each school district, then boys and girls who are also on their middle school's cross country team will train with those teams until the scholastic season concludes and then join our program on a regular basis thereafter (though members are welcome to practice and compete with WTC on days they do not do so with their school's team). However, all middle school Club members are expected to attend our Club’s practices each Sunday during the season.
Any competition schedule is still to be determined by COVID guidelines.
Though it appears unlikely, if there are any USATF sanctioned competitions, members will need to obtain a USATF membership in order to compete in those sanction events. The Club will keep members updated about such.
