THE COLLEGE ESSAY: A TUTORIAL FOR THE CLASS OF 2021
The program is offered as a week-long, ten-hour tutorial workshop held on the following dates and times:
Session 1: July 20th to July 24th TIME: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Session 2: July 20th to July 24th TIME: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Session 3: July 27th to July 31st TIME: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Session 4: July 27th to July 31st TIME: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Session 5: Aug. 3rd to Aug. 7th TIME: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Session 6: Aug. 3rd to Aug. 7th TIME: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The fee for this course is $82.70. All Registrations and payments must be made by Friday, June 12, 2020.
Tutorials will be small group learning environments where students will complete all steps of the writing process (from prewriting through production of a final draft) to create a college essay. Students will examine the diversity of topics for college essays, as well as learn how to narrow the topics to fit the individual applicants, generate ideas for a rough draft, and revise and edit through peer reviews. By the end of the tutorial, students will complete a final draft of an essay to submit to a college.

Reading and Analyzing Sample Essays Choosing a Writing Approach
Drafting Essays Creating Time Lines of Accomplishments
Revising and Editing for Clarity Focusing on the Active Voice
Writing Personal Narratives Varying Sentence Length and Beginnings
Using Appropriate Tone and Diction Strategies for Writing
Creating a Personal Profile Reviewing Do’s and Don’ts for Essays
Participating in Peer Review
Final section assignments will be posted online on Monday, June 16, 2020.
