Summary: Your child is interested in participating in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Solo and Ensemble Festival on May 8th at Pioneer High School.
Please complete this registration form no later than Friday, February 14th at 3:00 pm.
More Information: Each year NYSSMA sponsors dozens of festivals throughout the state in which thousands of student musicians perform for expert adjudicators to receive ratings and helpful comments on their performance.
Students are judged at one of six levels of performance: level one, for the least experienced students, through level six, for the most advanced. For middle and high school students, participation at this festival is necessary if they wish to be considered for an Area-All State or Conference All-State Ensemble.
Students are now working on solos to be performed at the festival. Your child has been preparing to attend the festival at Pioneer H.S. on Friday, May 8th.
Bus transportation will be provided for auditioning students. If Friday is not a possibility, students may audition on Saturday, May 9th, but transportation and chaperoning will be the registered student's family's responsibility. A week or two before the festival we should know each student's scheduled performance time.
The school will pay one registration fee for each student ($16.00 for levels one to four, $24.00 for levels five and six, and $30.00 for a Conference All-State audition). However, if a student signs up for the festival and does not participate, for any reason, they must reimburse the school for the registration fee.
Participation in this festival is not required, but it is strongly encouraged for all interested students. It is a positive, enjoyable, and motivating educational experience.
The school has limited copies of solo music for students' use, therefore, each student is encouraged to purchase his own copy of his solo. If you decide to purchase a copy of the solo please contact Music and Arts or Crinos directly. Most solos cost under $10.00.
If you have any questions please contact your child's music teacher.
