Each year PIAA regulations require that all student-athletes of the Upper Darby School District receive a physical examination prior to their participation in interscholastic athletics. This physical must be performed and dated no earlier than June 1st and shall be effective, regardless of when performed during a school year, only until May 31st of that same school year. For this upcoming school year, those valid dates are June 1, 2019 – May 31, 2020. Failure to turn in paperwork prior to the start of tryouts for your sport will result in a loss of participation for the upcoming season (until all necessary paperwork is received, and at the discretion of the coach/athletic department).
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPORTS PHYSICALS
**Please Note Change in Policy**
The PIAA, as well as the Upper Darby School District, requires a PIAA Comprehensive Initial Pre-participation Physical Evaluation (CIPPE) before a student can take part in any activities involving interscholastic sports. The physical will be valid for one academic year, not the calendar year. The physical must be given after June 1, 2019. Students cannot participate in try-outs or practice until a doctor has cleared them and they have filled out on FamilyID the PIAA Comprehensive Initial Pre-participation Physical Evaluation (including attaching Section 6), Upper Darby School District's Eligibility and Emergency Information, and the Understanding Nonmedical/Misuse of Prescription Medications and Addiction document. The whole CIPPE form, including Section 6 (the part which must be filled out by your child's physician), can be found HERE.
If you were injured recently before the current sport season you must see the UDHS Athletic Trainer.
For athletes who intend to compete in Wrestling, please make sure to download the CIPPE Section 9: CIPPE MINIMUM WRESTLING WEIGHT form, have it filled out by an assessor and AME, and upload form in the Participant section of the registration form. For additional questions and instructions, see the form available HERE.
