2018 Summer Virtual Course Information:
As a learner enrolled at Pequea Valley High School, online courses offer the flexibility to pursue alternative endeavors throughout the traditional school year. While virtual courses are often described as intensive, many learners are motivated to take on this challenge for a variety of reasons.
PVHS is once again offering a varied selection of 1 and .5 credit Summer Virtual courses in 2018. There are both enrichment and credit recovery courses being offered. A listing of available courses along with their descriptions can be found at the School Counseling section of the PVHS web pages. Learners are permitted to take a maximum of 2 courses via the summer virtual opportunity.
There is a $60 fee for each course taken. Enrichment course fees are eligible for reimbursement when the learner meets the scholarship requirements. Credit recovery course fees are NOT refundable.
2018-19 Advanced Placement Course Summer Work, GAPP Participants, & Other Academic Studies:
While there is no associated summer course fee, Pequea Valley High School learners taking one or more Advanced Placement courses in the 2018-19 school year who are required to complete work over the summer alone with all participants traveling to Germany with the German American Partnership Program will also use their school-issued laptops.
Learners partaking in other academic studies over the summer months MAY be permitted to use their PVSD laptops providing they have met the requirements of the administrative approval process. This includes but is not limited to learners who are: completing required courses for PVV, enrolled in a PVSD-authorized internship, or working on the requirements of a school-related project.
PVSD Laptop Summer Use Requirements:
There is a $40 non-refundable technology fee required for summer use. This fee also covers technology use for all learners in your household during the entire 2018-19 school year. Parents may opt to add the device to their personal homeowners or renters insurance plans in lieu of the fee. If you qualify for free or reduced lunches, your fee will be decreased appropriately. Payment of the fee (along with any virtual course registration) can be completed through PayPal or by cash, check, or money order. If paying by check or money order, please have it made out to Pequea Valley School District. Cash or check/money order payments must be turned in to Mrs. Smith in the Media Center by Thursday, June 7. (Learners traveling to Germany will need to submit payment by Friday, June 1.)
A second prerequisite of summer laptop use is that learners must turn in their laptops at end-of-year collection so that it can be updated and cleaned by the Technology Department. It is imperative to bring all components to that check so as not to incur a charge for missing items. The laptop will be unavailable for use for the entire week, but may be picked up on Monday, June 18 if the following are valid:
- this registration has been completed
- all course and/or tech fees are paid in full
- ALL components of the device (laptop, power supply, duck head, and bag) have been received by the Tech Team
- there are no outstanding obligations to the district (this includes charges incurred during the 2018 laptop check process)
