The Putney School Summer Programs

The Putney School Summer Programs offer a full range of workshops for students age 14 to 17 in creative writing, visual arts, performing arts, farm/sustainability and ESOL. We support focused, intensive, and active participation by students who work in a non-competitive environment. The students and staff who come to Putney each summer form a close-knit community, far removed from the urban environment. The diversity of our student body and staff brings a wealth of talent, thought, and background, enriching the experiences of all students.

The campus of The Putney School is situated on a beautiful hilltop in southern Vermont and encompasses a working farm which provides produce and dairy products served throughout the summer.

Students enroll in full-day Writing Intensive or in half-day workshops in Fiction Writing, Poetry Writing and Writing for Performance, as well as a wide range of workshops in the visual arts including-  Photography, Sculpture, Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, Glass Arts, Fashion Design. Offerings in Performing Arts and Music are Music Composition, Songwriting, Audio Art, Theater and Dance. High teacher to student ratio ensures that students receive individual attention.
