WIAA Changes in 2020
All sports seasons have been altered during the 2020-2021 school year. Instead of having fall sports starting in August and running through November there will be an open coaching window going from Sept. 29th - November 30th. This change allows all WIAA sports to practice (outdoors only based on SPS and school guidance). Most of our programs have practices set-up (see specifics below).
Competitive season dates have changed with the fall season moving to the spring and is scheduled between the winter and spring sports seasons. The exact dates are listed:
Winter sports go from December 28 - February 27.
Fall sports this year will compete from March 1 - May 1.
Spring sports will happen from April 26 - June 26.
The WIAA is allowing fewer required practice days for athletes to become eligible. All sports that required ten practices now only require five. The remaining sports: football and wrestling require 10 instead of 12, and gymnastics requires 10 instead of 15.
Clearance and Covid-19 Protocol
If you are interested in attending workouts, please make sure you are signed up for that sport and registered on FamilyID beforehand. You must be cleared by the Athletic Director and have turned in both Covid-19 forms, waiver and screening, to each head coach you are practicing with this fall. This does require more work for families but ensures each program has a record of these forms on hand.
Coaches are assigning student-athletes to pods (groups of five & the same ones all fall) to help with contact tracing and quarantining if we have a positive Covid-19 test or Covid-like symptoms. Athletes will be screened daily (questions and temperature check) at practice by coaches and must attest they are symptom free as well as have a temperature under 100.4 degrees F in order to practice.
If student-athletes are not feeling well please do not attend practice! Also, contact each head coach before attending practice to make sure you are in the correct session, since some programs are staggering and separating workouts. Communication is key!
