Despite the current pandemic, the Rockaway Borough Board of Education is continuing the practice of requiring all students in grades three and six to re-register prior to the start of school in September.
Non-resident students attending our schools are becoming a growing problem in the Rockaway Borough School District. New Jersey Statute 18A:38-1 states that a school district must allow any person who is domiciled within the school district and who is over 5 and under 20 years of age to attend its schools free of charge." Please be advised that a domicile is considered an individual's true, fixed and permanent place or home, to which whenever absent he or she has the intention of returning.
The re-registration process will assist district administration with ensuring that students attending Rockaway Borough Schools are residents of Rockaway Borough. Prior to the opening of school on September 8, 2020 (whatever that looks like) parents/guardians of third and sixth grade students are required to re-register their child(ren).
To assist this process in today's climate, I am happy to announce that we are offering the convenience of online registration through FamilyID (www.familyid.com). FamilyID is a secure registration platform that provides you with an easy, user-friendly way to re-register online and helps the district to be more administratively efficient and environmentally responsible. We are currently using this platform for Sports registration and find it very effective as the system keeps track of your information in your specific FamilyID profile and families only have to enter essential information once for multiple uses.
